getting that jungle fix :)

Tomorrow marks one week since Micah left to teach in a Bible capacitation program in the jungle (Yurimaguas). We talked briefly on the phone tonight as he's got quite a pile of papers and tests to grade, but he's happy to be finished with the teaching part. He's had a grueling week teaching 6-8 hours each day, and then sleeping in a tent in the same room as the students, who stayed up 'til the wee hours every night studying for his classes :)

Micah has been looking forward to traveling to Tarapoto tomorrow (where we've been for the last 2yrs). He'll spend two days with the church there before heading out of town for a week long river trip. I honestly can't remember which of the villages he'll be visiting, but then again, I'd venture that most of you wouldn't recognize them even if I did mention names, so I suppose it'll all be alright either way. :) Thankfully, the Lord is far more informed than we are, going before, working presently as well as following up afterward. Please pray that He would work mightily in hearts and that He would find Micah a useful instrument.

Please also specifically keep Micah and all the brothers who are still gathered there in Yurimaguas for another week of classes in your prayers as there has been an outbreak of dengue fever in the area. River trips always carry their own special risks as well, so please do pray for health and safety for the trip. Micah is excited because a friend/fellow missionary/adventurer will be joining him. You can also pray that the Lord would grant sweet fellowship and genuine encouragement for them both.

The kids and I are enjoying the time we've been in Trujillo, where we've had ample opportunity to catch up with friends and missionary family. What a neat blessing it's been to have some time here before we travel back to the States in mid-March.

Speaking of travel to the US... we do have a few dates set, but we'll be working feverishly on our itinerary plans just as soon as Micah gets back. We'll do our best to let you know where we'll be and when just as soon as we can. :)

Please accept my humble apologies for the lack of communication, as I had to leave the apartment for an internet connection until earlier this week, which for a multitude of reasons isn't as easy as it may seem at first glance:) Thank you all for continuing to pray regardless!

Amy, on behalf of the rest of the Tuttle tribe

February Fun!

Tarapoto, February 2010
We are very excited about what's been happening here in Tarapoto. Now that we have a building with four walls, a roof and a door, things have really been rearing up and ready to go! This week, was the first time the women and the youth group have met since last year. The two last Sunday night meetings had nearly 50 people! Everyone is really excited. With our own meeting place, somehow it just 'feels' more like church! Yay!

Pray with us that this building will long be used to His glory!!

The picture below is a picture taken during the Sunday morning Lord's Supper. Less people come in the mornings, but we are content that all the core group of believers are able to fellowship during this meeting. The kids meet for Sunday School in the back during this first service, the Bible Hour. The Breaking of Bread service follows with everyone present. Though every week there are a few glitches, we are enjoying working them out one by one.

We LOVE how the light shines in the double high windows!!

The women have been really anxious to start meeting, as they haven't officially met for almost a year now. Here's a picture of our group this last Thursday. For the next few months, Amy will be co-teaching through 'Encuentros con Jesucristo', Moments with Jesus Christ. Pray for us as this is admittedly not the season for Amy to be involved in ministry outside the home, but the Lord is stretching us both in many different areas.

January through February has definitely been termed the season of visitors. Though it is rather disruptive to the regularity of life, we hope it will be this way EVERY year! :) It is summertime on this part of the globe, so classes are out, and most take advantage of their vacation time. Also, due to the fact that Bible Capacitation courses [Capacitacion Biblica] take place in Yurimaguas during February, and because Tarapoto is on the way to Yurimaguas, we've had LOTS of guests. We have enjoyed having all of them (14) as well as short-termers (2). All the kids especially enjoy the visitors despite the fact the boys have had to forfeit their room since the middle of January. Our house is not really adequate for guests, so we are thinking to look for another rental house when our contract comes up in August, with at least a couple of guest rooms! This picture was one of the more recent fun guest-filled days...

Thank you for praying for us, we can use every ounce of grace granted! These months have not been without trial, and we thank the Lord that His grace is sufficient and that His power is made perfect in weakness. We are so grateful for all your love and support.

In Him,
the tuttles

Did you know that we are breaking in the new building this week?! woohoo! Though it doesn't have lights, a door, flooring, or bars on the windows, we are going ahead and taking advantage of the larger space for the KIDS campaign. We wanted to hold the meetings there in order to invite the neighborhood kids (it's on a new street) so they and their parents can start to feel comfortable coming to our new building! It is summer vacation here, so we actually have 2 kids campaigns planned for this month!! We're really excited!

Please pray that this opportunity to use the new building will bring many interested souls.

We'd like to introduce to you all, an amazing young lady, Dhaly! She has been VERY busy working with us this month. She is here doing her missions practicum to finish her course for Bible school. The first week she accompanied Micah and the boys on the river trip, and was in charge of the meetings for the women and children. The second week, she was in Yurimaguas with the church there... she put on a 5-day club + daily women's mtgs + a course for Sunday School teachers, all in one week! BU-SY! Last week, she did the women's meetings here in Tarapoto and THIS week she is in charge of the Kids Campaign we are hosting. Thankfully, another young person from Trujillo flew here at the beginning of this week, and he has been a really big help with the kids as well.

Did we happen to mention to her the fact that most people after just ONE week of working with Micah are totally dead dog tired?! I'm not sure we thought of it at the time she asked us! :)

But, we sure are happy that she's here. ;)

Capacitacion Biblica Yurimaguas is about to begin... so we've seen several passers-through and one surprise guest arrived today. Antonio's luggage didn't make it onto the same bus he arrived on, so he's being detained and will be spending the night in our living room (all our other bedrooms are already booked beyond their recommended double-occupancy!).

Micah will be teaching next week in Yurimaguas, so you can pray for all of us. That his classes will be well-received and that those of us left behind will be able to accomplish much on the school front while he is away.

Amy for all

Ready for rest

Dear friends and family,

Javen, Cullen and I have just arrived back from a trip to the jungle where I was teaching at a Bible conference. I also preached in several churches, evangelized in the markets and tried to encourage believers in some of the villages along the river. The boys had lots of fun searching for giant boa skins, swinging on palm tree branches, playing soccer, eating ice-cream, chasing rats and swimming in the river.

Several of the men who studied at the conference traveled for 3 days to get the Bible teaching. Two of the men who live up river cut down some trees, lashed them together, piled the raft high with bananas, jumped on and just let the current take them down towards town. After 24 hours of floating on the mighty Huallaga they arrived at the towns port, sold the bananas and with their earnings paid for the classes.

The area of the jungle we were in is where Bert and Colleen Elliot worked for many, many years. There are lots of small assemblies in the region. Now (20 years after the Elliot's left the area) there is a real need to train a new generation of leaders, elders, pastors, and national missionaries. The students, the churches, and the villages were hungry for God's word so there were plenty of opportunities. I love to preach and teach the bible and that's what I did last week ….. about 45 times. Now I'm quite tired and ready for a rest.

Editor's note: We've been waiting on a youtube video to upload to attach a link to this e-mail, but it is taking forEVER (13hrs so far), so we'll send that along as soon as it is ready :)

Thank you for all your prayers for us over this last extraordinarily busy month. It will all be over after this weekend... until next month, that is :) heheheh.

Amy for all

Halfway

Hey there!
Thanks SO much for all your prayers for us over this month, we sure have benefited from them!

* We're more than halfway done with the crazy month of February!
* More than half done with classes at the Institute...looking forward to our first graduation of students in the last week.
* And we're through the first half of Micah's 12-day stint in the jungle. Only 6 more days!! hooray!

He says things are going well, and I know they are, even so, I can still tell he's tiring out... even mile-a-minute Micah!!

He said on the phone last night, "I've had a headache pretty much every class. It's because I've been talking so fervently... it hurts your head to talk fervently for two hours." He's been teaching 4 hours a day.

Please pray for us on both ends. Pray that Micah would present those things that would cause most growth in the students and that he'd be relying on the Lord for strength. Pray that I would also have endurance and be able to accomplish the most important things while he's gone.

I wish I had pictures to share with you from there... maybe we can figure that out in the next day or two.

Love you all,
In Him,
Amy on behalf of the rest of us

Classes update

Dear friends and family,

Things at the Bible Institute are going well this month. Lots of studying, lots of evangelism and lots of fun. I just finished up with teaching an Apologetics course in which we learned to defend the Christian faith when dealing with Atheists, the cults, and the false religions of the world. After class each day we tried to put things into practice and went into the streets to do some evangelism. In five days we were able to give out more than a thousand tracts and share the gospel with hundreds of people.

Please pray for the remainder February´s classes here in Trujillo and this upcoming week of classes in Yurimaguas while I´m away from Amy and the kids.

-Micah Tuttle

busy, busy

Hey there Friends & Family!

We hope you are all relishing the winter! Maybe by now, you are more likely relishing thoughts of impending spring!? Well, we thought we'd give you an update from down south where we are thoroughly enjoying the long-awaited much longed for summer heat!

We are right in the middle of all the fun. January was spent getting ready for and teaching in Capacitacion Biblica here in Trujillo. Micah taught 1&2 Samuel over two weeks. Since then he's been finishing up preparations on his other two classes.

This last Sunday, Feb. 1st was the official start of the Institute AND the Capacitacion in the jungle is going on simultaneously! Micah will be teaching Apologetics next week in IBEM and then will go by bus and hopefully arrive in time to teach a condensed 1&2Samuel and Nehemiah in the jungle the next week. All the while, he's also the coordinator of practical studies at IBEM, so he's working out evangelistic events, work projects, involving the students in a variety of different ministries, etc, etc. So, busy, busy. Phfew! That's been fun! :)

We are still praying and dreaming of the jungle... please keep praying for us! As we get closer, we're looking at the possibility of spending several months there this year. Our goal would be to spy it out, give a boost to the believers there in Tarapoto, do at least one river trip (visiting the churches between Yuri and Tarapoto) and to capture a better idea of what ministry possibilities could be developed further in the future. Please pray specifically in this regard that if this is the next step in this Grand Adventure, that the Lord would put everything into place... financially, practically, etc.

As for family news, we are very much enjoying the fact that it is really warm here, and we want the kids to enjoy it too, so we bought a pool and boogie boards... now there's a way to help with the heat!! Mya is now walking and subsequently getting into everything. Javen is a huge help to us and is beginning to take interest in piano again as well as drawing Narnia characters. Siah is such a sweet boy and is learning his letters and numbers. Feb. 1st was also Bria's 6th birthday! She is learning to read and can now swim under water! Cullen is learning some guitar basics and does everything with all of his might, especially swimming and surfing! Amy continues to school the kids right through the summer albeit at a slightly relaxed pace. We are living FULL!

We're sorry this got kind of long. Maybe we should have combined it into two...
but we thank you for reading our news and please do pray for us - your prayers are so valuable!

In Christ,
Micah and Amy Tuttle

Prayer requested

Hello Friends and Family,

Life has been speeding along as usual. We've been pretty busy over the last couple months but things are just about to speed up! As I write, everything is packed and we're about to leave for another trip to the jungle... driving. That's actually what prompted me to write! Please, please pray again as we're headed back to the jungle.
Here are a few specific requests for this next week:

  • hat we'd see just what the Lord would have us to see; that we'd have open hearts
  • we'd meet the people that He wants us meet
  • that we'd be able to get a good idea if the Lord has work for us to do there
  • safe travel & health (20 hours in 2 days each way with 5 kids! ...hahahah, woohoo!)
The next few months are jammed packed, with hardly any breathing room.
Please pray for the following:
  • November -
    • classes for IBEM (Bible Institute), 4 weeks
  • December -
    • evangelistic campaign in Ayacucho, 1 week
    • conference in mtns (Chonta Alta), 1 week
    • short-termer from Houston for Christmas break, 2-3 weeks
  • January -
    • Capacitacion Biblica - Trujillo, 2 weeks
    • another jungle trip planned, 2 weeks
  • February -
    • classes for IBEM (Bible Institute), 4 weeks
    • Capacitacion Biblica - Yurimaguas, 2 weeks
In the midst of all of this we are considering the possibility of ministry in the jungle in the somewhat near future. Would you pray with us about that? Pray that the Lord would give wisdom and clear guidance. We really are slowly leaning in that direction, and just pray that the Lord would guide us patiently, as we try to be good sheep :) We want to do what He wants us to do. We may not be good at lots of things, but we want to do what we were made for. So we wait for Him, 'cause He's the one who knows us best of all.

We so covet your prayers.
Thank you for loving us,
Amy for all
