...to the rescue!

What fun we've had over the last few days! Planning and scheming about how to love and serve Christ by sending food for the believers in Papa Playa, many of whom have lost whole crops in the recent flooding, has occupied much of our attention.

As we've worked out, we're hoping that the food in this truck is enough to sustain 50 families of four (complemented by their daily catch of fish) for at least a couple of weeks. There are about that many families represented at the village church, and we're making a gift of beans, oil and pasta for each family. Plus, the store where we bought most of the things was inspired and donated 10 boxes of panetones free of charge! Now, that doesn't happen every day!

Of course we couldn't take enough on this trip to give a gift to everyone in the village. But we have some really cool ideas for ways to use this opportunity to bring glory to God and hopefully the gospel to people, if we're able to send more later on this month. We're looking forward to it.

Our visitors, David and Joana, arrived yesterday from France, today assisted in loaded the truck, and will be with Micah until tomorrow finishing off the food drop; along with Miss Mya who is making her first river trip with Daddy!

Please pray that above all things the Lord would receive much glory from every aspect of this project: from how the items and the gospel are presented, to how the people receive them. Pray also that the people would see Christ and that the eyes of their hearts would be opened to His word and to His Spirit's working.

We are figuring on taking a truckload of rice within the next couple of weeks. But, I think we'll have to take a bigger truck! It is exciting it is to be part of a rescue project! Several of you have offered to send money to help. We consider ourselves lucky that we're the ones who actually get to deliver Christ's love into their kitchens. They are going to be SO excited! Oh, and those of you who have joined with us on this project by praying or sending, we too, want to THANK YOU!

May the Lord bless you as you continue to seek and serve Him.

February Fun!

Tarapoto, February 2010
We are very excited about what's been happening here in Tarapoto. Now that we have a building with four walls, a roof and a door, things have really been rearing up and ready to go! This week, was the first time the women and the youth group have met since last year. The two last Sunday night meetings had nearly 50 people! Everyone is really excited. With our own meeting place, somehow it just 'feels' more like church! Yay!

Pray with us that this building will long be used to His glory!!

The picture below is a picture taken during the Sunday morning Lord's Supper. Less people come in the mornings, but we are content that all the core group of believers are able to fellowship during this meeting. The kids meet for Sunday School in the back during this first service, the Bible Hour. The Breaking of Bread service follows with everyone present. Though every week there are a few glitches, we are enjoying working them out one by one.

We LOVE how the light shines in the double high windows!!

The women have been really anxious to start meeting, as they haven't officially met for almost a year now. Here's a picture of our group this last Thursday. For the next few months, Amy will be co-teaching through 'Encuentros con Jesucristo', Moments with Jesus Christ. Pray for us as this is admittedly not the season for Amy to be involved in ministry outside the home, but the Lord is stretching us both in many different areas.

January through February has definitely been termed the season of visitors. Though it is rather disruptive to the regularity of life, we hope it will be this way EVERY year! :) It is summertime on this part of the globe, so classes are out, and most take advantage of their vacation time. Also, due to the fact that Bible Capacitation courses [Capacitacion Biblica] take place in Yurimaguas during February, and because Tarapoto is on the way to Yurimaguas, we've had LOTS of guests. We have enjoyed having all of them (14) as well as short-termers (2). All the kids especially enjoy the visitors despite the fact the boys have had to forfeit their room since the middle of January. Our house is not really adequate for guests, so we are thinking to look for another rental house when our contract comes up in August, with at least a couple of guest rooms! This picture was one of the more recent fun guest-filled days...

Thank you for praying for us, we can use every ounce of grace granted! These months have not been without trial, and we thank the Lord that His grace is sufficient and that His power is made perfect in weakness. We are so grateful for all your love and support.

In Him,
the tuttles

Did you know that we are breaking in the new building this week?! woohoo! Though it doesn't have lights, a door, flooring, or bars on the windows, we are going ahead and taking advantage of the larger space for the KIDS campaign. We wanted to hold the meetings there in order to invite the neighborhood kids (it's on a new street) so they and their parents can start to feel comfortable coming to our new building! It is summer vacation here, so we actually have 2 kids campaigns planned for this month!! We're really excited!

Please pray that this opportunity to use the new building will bring many interested souls.

We'd like to introduce to you all, an amazing young lady, Dhaly! She has been VERY busy working with us this month. She is here doing her missions practicum to finish her course for Bible school. The first week she accompanied Micah and the boys on the river trip, and was in charge of the meetings for the women and children. The second week, she was in Yurimaguas with the church there... she put on a 5-day club + daily women's mtgs + a course for Sunday School teachers, all in one week! BU-SY! Last week, she did the women's meetings here in Tarapoto and THIS week she is in charge of the Kids Campaign we are hosting. Thankfully, another young person from Trujillo flew here at the beginning of this week, and he has been a really big help with the kids as well.

Did we happen to mention to her the fact that most people after just ONE week of working with Micah are totally dead dog tired?! I'm not sure we thought of it at the time she asked us! :)

But, we sure are happy that she's here. ;)

Capacitacion Biblica Yurimaguas is about to begin... so we've seen several passers-through and one surprise guest arrived today. Antonio's luggage didn't make it onto the same bus he arrived on, so he's being detained and will be spending the night in our living room (all our other bedrooms are already booked beyond their recommended double-occupancy!).

Micah will be teaching next week in Yurimaguas, so you can pray for all of us. That his classes will be well-received and that those of us left behind will be able to accomplish much on the school front while he is away.

Amy for all

Yurimaguas w/ pix and videos

Dear friends and family,

As we walked through the market (the closest thing that the jungle town of Yurimaguas has to a Walmart) we had to negotiate around piles of bananas, oranges and dried fish. A friend from Houston Texas, 6 Peruvians and myself were on our way to a prime open air preaching spot, but when we arrived we found that a Shamán had already beat us to the "pulpit". This "witch-doctor" was quite an interesting fellow as he had set up his table with skulls, medicines and different spiritist trinkets. As he preached his message of lies to about 8 people we set up right next to him and began to preach God's message of truth to a crowd that reached about 200 people almost instantly.

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places." (Eph 6:12)

That night there were about 30 new people at the church where I once again preached the gospel. Many stayed after the meeting with broken hearts and wanting to be dealt with personally before God. Only time will tell how many genuine conversions there were but until then I seek to glorify God by preaching the gospel of His Son (Rom 1:9).

Dentists and Campesinos

Well, I began writing this last night when the kids were in bed, Micah was out doing missionary stuff, and the house was quiet...

(...except for that occasional really loud annoying banging that is caused by the Sam the dog pawing the window to be let in).

It is no longer quiet, but I needed to get this up this morning!

My report on our weekend with a houseful of people.

An Irishman, a French woman and 3 Peruvians all went to stay in the house of some Americans...

No, wait a minute, that's not how it went... An Irish dentist named Tony, our friends Luis the Limeño and his French wife Anna-Laure and their two little guys, Peruvians Lizzy and Cecia, and Kate the Canadian plus our family of six Americans all in one house! Wow, that is quite the diverse multi-national group!

Just see the pictures...

I tried to put this collage on here, but I think it must be about 5MB or something... so, you'll have to click the link! :)

Here's my friend Lizzy and I taking down the patients' important information and a brief medical history before they got to have their teeth taken out.

The dentist (Tony) wasn't able to bring ALL his stuff (I never realized how many tools dentists have!), so he wasn't able to do fillings but he was able to take them out! He took out the teeth that were just too rotten; and those were at least 75 in that one day! There were about 60 patients (I wish we would have counted exactly). And let me tell you, it was AMAZING. These people do NOT brush their teeth, and they suffer the terrible consequences... Many, many, many of them (including children), had such rotten teeth that the tooth part broke off at the root and that's all they had in their gums!! I could NOT believe it. Tony had to dig in and pull! Yuck. And you might not believe it, but seriously, the root part of the tooth is bigger than the part that you can see. I NEVER knew how seriously HUGE teeth were until now! There were only a couple faintings (the helpers- the patients were all fine), and one seriously close call (Micah had to run out of the room before he fainted).

(Click picture to see Gallery of photos)

Okay, well, I'll try to get more up on the Gallery if you'd like to see more (click one of the photos). I think that about does it for my summary. I guess that will fill my quoto of Peru pictures too... for awhile anyway.

And no not because of "dentist" pix. I looked at all the pix on the site. I love what you guys are doing there. The help you guys have been giving those people is amazing. God bless you all.

Micah, I think you got your athlithic abilities from your mom, but the fainting I think you got from me.

HADAD

Fancy Fun contest

I cannot be frothy and foretell that the aforementioned contest will be one with a fantastic prize... but it WILL have a prize... (however frugal and frivolous it may be)

Here's our latest monthly letter with contest rules at the bottom...

Thanks to all of you faithful friends and fellow followers of Jesus for not
forgetting us!

We are feeling some fun coming on! See the PS at the finish for the friendly competition! We just wanted you to know that YOU are among our favorite people in the world! Here is a challenge for you... you must encourage all the people you know to sign up for our feeble attempt
at a newsletter and soon! We will be sending our next letter in approximately 2 weeks to fill you in on what's been happening of late. I know that you are all waiting on pins and needles, but we figure that looking at some of our fotos might tide you over until we can fellowship again. When you click on this link: Our Photo Gallery (if it doesn't work, try copy and pasting it into your browser address bar) you might feel a little flighty or lightheaded at the sight of some of the frightening scenes... I mean, Micah saw it fresh and HE just about fell over and fainted! I've posted pictures of the missions team we just hosted, we were amazingly multi-national around here with five nationalities including a French woman and a fine dentist. He practically flew pulling teeth (seventy-five in one day), and those things are far from fragile! He fed them anesthetic to dull the feeling and then after a big YANK, the teeth practically fell out! Well, visit our Gallery full of fotografías, and we´ll fill you in on all the fun foibles fairly by the finish of the week following next.

We covet your fervent and frequent prayers on behalf of our family!

Fondly,
Amy Tuttle

PS. CONTEST #1- To play: The FIRST and FIFTH person to e-mail me
with the theme-letter-of-the-alphabet used frequently throughout this
note, will win a fresh flower! Frantic now! You COULD BE the first... or
the fifth!
CONTEST #2- To play: Count the number of times the theme letter is
used throughout this note (PS's included) and e-mail me to win! -By
the way, I haven't the foggiest idea! :)

Feel free to leave friendly feedback!
