Over the course of the last two months, ministry took us to Houston then to Lubbock, then to Wichita, then to Viroqua, and then back to Dubuque again. I was able to do plenty of preaching and teaching and evangelism and home bible studies….. but as a result of all this exposure to people…. we ended up with the dreaded coronavirus…. We thank the Lord that it wasn't actually so dreadful…. more like a 2 day flu. I know that this virus affects different people in different ways and we are grateful that it wasn't too serious for us. We quarantined, so as to not infect others, but that didn't stop us from “zooming” through it :) …. While “coronafied” I had the privilege of preaching through zoom in several meetings around the USA and Canada.

Corona revival in the jungles of Peru. According to some of the villagers that I'm able to contact through facebook there's news of God doing special things in the jungle. Our thirty villages along the Huallaga river in the San Martin/Loreto departamentos of Peru have been greatly affected by coronavirus. There have been many deaths, even some of the assembly leaders and elders have graduated on to glory through this pandemic. But The Lord seems to be using it to bring many more souls to Himself. Apparantly there has been a widespread repentance and a turning to Jesus as Savior and Lord. They say that the churches are growing in number and in maturity! Praise the Lord for this news! I can't wait until Peru opens up again so I can go and see, first hand, what the Lord is doing!

Javen and Cullen have started their senior year at Emmaus. We are so proud of our two oldest sons! Javen is majoring in Christian counseling, while Cullen is majoring in intercultural ministries. Both of them have moved back "home" with the rest of us in Dubuque so as to save money. As they continue with their studies, they are also working at FedEx, very involved in their respective churches and Lord willing they should both be graduating in May. Javen and Cullen both have many gifts and abilities and it is exciting to see how the Lord will use them as they grow and draw closer to our great God. September was a busy month of travel and ministry! Last month, Amy and I and the four younger kids drove about 5,200 miles and visited 7 churches along the way. Lots of evangelism, lots of preaching and lots of mutual encouragement with the saints in 6 different states. The Lord has called us to encourage His people in the areas of evangelism, discipleship, church planting and missions and we are grateful that He has opened up doors to do this across the country. While weekly zoom meetings continue, in person, physical, coming together meetings are on the increase too. Please pray for endurance as our schedule for October is just about as crazy as Sebtember's was. Ozark Family Camp
We as a family, just wrapped up a fantastic week at Turkey Hill Ranch Bible Camp near Jefferson City Missouri! I had the privilege of being one of the speakers and I preached on the topic of "Attitudes in Hell that should exist in the Church" (evangelism). It was great to be together seeking the Lord at a beautiful camp setting with about 120 brothers and sisters of all ages. There were lots of kids, lots of parents, lots of grandparents and lots of mutual encouragement. We are so grateful for our time there!

Zoom conferences
As you all know, zoom meetings are the thing to do now and it will probably be that way for the foreseeable future. Virtual meetings have become a big part of our schedule and just last month I was able to zoom in with messages to Colombia, Peru, India, and different states around the USA. One good thing about this pandemic is that believers everywhere have realized how easy it is to travel across the world (virtually) and hold gospel meetings without the hassle and cost of an airplane fight. Of course this isn't ideal but its better than nothing and it has enabled me to preach in several different countries, all in the same day!


Kansas Bible camp
We thank the Lord that some churches and camps and home-groups are starting to meet in person again. In early July I was able to speak to about 200 high-schoolers that had gathered at Kansas Bible Camp near Hutchinson. The Lord really seemed to use our time there and He blessed our family too as we were greatly encouraged by the staff that invited us. Bible camps are such a useful tool in the Lord's hands! Often times these weeks out at camp are a spiritually pivotal time the life of a young person. Please pray for us as we try to make the most of these camp opportunities!


Lubbock Texas
After our stop at Kansas Bible Camp we went further south to Lubbock Texas where we participated in a reunion of students and teachers from the Galilee Discipleship Program. We had a fantastic time studying through the first four chapters of Matthew with about 40 college and career young adults that came from all over the country. Aside from the times of study and worship there were plenty of games and food and even a Texas Ranch field trip! We had a blast together as a family and best of all it was sooo encouraging to be with a group of young people that are passionate about living for the Lord in this extraordinary time in history!


Colorado Springs
For the last year we have been praying about a possible church plant in Colorado Springs. We have never been there before and we didn't really know anyone there until recently. On our way back to Iowa from Texas we went through Colorado for an exploratory trip and God really surprised us with some very open doors! I was unexpectedly asked to preach at one of the assemblies in town and as a result we made a lot of great contacts. We ended up staying at an amazing high desert ranch where we were able to spend some time discussing and praying about these future possibilities. We don't know what the Lord will do.... all we know is that we long to see evangelism, discipleship and church planting happening across North America.

Father's day was a good reminder of the great responsibility and privilege that the Lord has given to me as the dad of six children. I thank the Lord for the kids that He has blessed Amy and I with! I've been struck lately with the fact that fatherlessness is one of the biggest contributing factors to the brokenness that we see in our society today. Please pray for me as a husband and father. When I get this right all other ministries seem to fall into place.


After a great Father's day celebration I drove across the state to "Iowa Bible Camp" which decided to remain open and functioning, even in the midst of COVID-19 concerns! Praise the Lord that there are still a few camps that haven't shut down.... And praise the Lord that no one got sick! The week served as a major fork in the road for the teens who attended. In the mornings I preached about our spiritual battle and in the evenings I gave gospel messages. It is absolutely amazing how the world the flesh and the devil are doing everything they can to brainwash a younger generation. Their only hope is the gospel and a firm foundation on Gods word! Please pray for the campers that heard the messages.... each one having so much potential to be a useful instruments in the Masters hands....


The Lord really did great things in the hearts of many of the young people! On Tuesday it became evident that there were a lot sin and addiction issues, but then there seemed to be a breakthrough on Wednesday. On Thursday night the Lord brought a lot of conviction and repentance..... It's hard to explain what happened but God really did something special! There was a lot of brokenness and restoration as many campers were confessing sin, getting alone with God and responding to the gospel. God is worthy of our praise!!!!

COVID-19 has greatly changed our calendar! Almost every speaking engagement that was on the schedule from March through September has been cancelled. Despite the huge changes in ministry we have stayed very busy. Amy has been working hard to start a homeschool website to teach families that have never done it before and aren't sure how to face the upcoming school year. We've both been speaking on a lot of zoom and virtual meetings. And I've been doing plenty of evangelism.

It's amazing how fragile our world is and how quickly our sense of "security" can be taken away from us! Weather it's coronavirus, or social injustice, or the economic crisis, nearly everyone, everywhere has been impacted by the issues of our day. As a result, the social upheaval surrounding us has driven many people to a greater openness about spiritual things. The harvest for souls is ripe... maybe more than ever before! Many are searching for answers and as people slowly come out of quarantine, we have a golden opportunity to take the gospel to them!

In an attempt to seize the moment, I've been going out daily to do evangelistic questionnaires and the resulting gospel conversations have been fantastic!!! This method provides one of the easiest ways to start a spiritual dialogue with almost anybody. I’m always trying to develop new questionnaires that have to do with current events and I've found that people usually enjoy participating in them if I do it in a friendly and respectful way. These questionnaires deal with the current "hot topics" and they all work great to create engaging conversations! Each day I try to grab a friend and face-mask and then we head to a park where we approach total strangers and say something like: “Hello, we're going around conducting a questionnaire about “coronavirus and religion” would you like to participate?” Surprisingly, most people say: "Sure" and immediately we are on the path to a good gospel conversation!

The Coronavirus questionnaire goes like this:
"Would you say that coronavirus is real news or fake news?"
"If there was a vaccine against coronavirus would you take it?"
"Do you think that we should open up the economy or keep it shut down?"
"Do you think there could be serious consequences if we ignore coronavirus?"

"Now we're going to apply the same questions to religion, Ready?"

"Would you say that religion is real news or fake news?"
"If there was a vaccine against sin would you take it?"
"Do you think its better to open up to spiritual things or to stay shut down?"
"Do you think there could be serious consequences for ignoring the sin pandemic?"

"That's it! Thanks for participating in this questionnaire!"

If the person we are speaking with seems interested in continuing the dialogue I go on by asking the famous evangelism explosion question: "If you were to die today and you were to walk up to heavens gate and God asks you: 'Why should I let you into my heaven?' What would you say?" These conversations can go in many different directions and I never want to "force the issue" but at the same time I usually end up being able to share a clear gospel message in a loving way. Nothing better than that!

A month ago we flew from Peru back to the USA and almost simultaneously we watched the world transform before our very eyes! When we landed in Miami I preached 12 times in 10 days but then our very full calendar became very empty as camps and conferences and bible studies and churches began to cancel their meetings. It's amazing to see how our world has been totally shaken in just a few weeks! We are so fragile! Borders are closed. Hospitals are full. Panic has griped the world. Millions of people have lost their jobs. The stock market has crashed. And the world is facing a financial crisis.

After our travel calendar got wiped out, our "ZOOM" calendar began to fill up. Amy has been leading a bi-weekly women's study on-line for about a month and a half now and after she taught me how to use ZOOM I've become somewhat of a "virtual preacher" :) Last Sunday I preached in Portland Oregon, and then on Monday I went to Bangelor India and preached there. Today I'm preaching in Dubuque Iowa and tomorrow I'll be in Lima Peru. On Friday and Saturday I'll be preaching in Seattle Washington. Then on Sunday morning I'll preach in Pittsburg Pennsylvania after which I'll go back to Seattle to preach one more message to the saints there. All of this is happening without even leaving our house! While it's not quite the same as being there in person, it is great to have this technology and use it to get God's word out to as many people as possible! Please pray for us with all of these new opportunities!

These truly are amazing times in history and we should ask ourselves: "Is God sounding forth a wakeup call to the nations?" Things like pandemics happen in a broken and fallen world but maybe this is more than just a virus..... Maybe God is sending us small "birth pains" as a warning of bigger things to come... Which way will we go? What will we do? In 2 Chronicles 7:14 we see Gods blueprint for revival. The only way to make America great again is through humility, prayer and repentance! What will we choose? Revival or ruin? God has sent us a warning.... its called “COVID 19”.... The alarm is sounding forth. The United States needs to turn to the Lord while He may be found! But national revival always starts with personal revival. Where are you at spiritually speaking? Will you respond to his call? We cannot see renewal without revival and we cannot see revival without repentance. Return to God! This is the only way to open heaven. It's the only way to open Gods eyes and His ears and His heart. It's time to seek Gods face!

There are so many events and ministries that we took part in last month that it's hard to know where to begin. There were children's meetings, open air meetings and church meetings. There were baptisms, discipleship adventures and family outings. There were thermal springs to visit, marriage conferences to give and Bible training courses to teach. It was a full and very exciting February!

There's nothing better than swinging from vines like Tarzan in the jungle with a bunch of village kids! This was just one of the many exciting kids events that we participated in last month. Some of these children will grow to be the leaders of their communities, and churches. It has been a great joy to do children's meetings from village to village and to share the love of Christ with as many of them as we can. Please pray for the many kids that we were able to impact with the gospel in several villages during the course of the last few weeks.

While visiting the neighboring town of Yurimaguas I took some of the brothers into the market to do some evangelism. I walked up to a man and his son and started a friendly gospel conversation using my evangecube..... before I knew it there were about 40 kids crowded around to see what I had in my hand. After a ten minute message to the kids, many adults started listening in... So I jumped up on a table and began to sound forth Gods word with all the vocal cords I could give it. It was awesome! A hush kinda went out across the market as people were trying to listen from afar. After my voice was gone I handed it over to some of the young men with me and they took it from there. Please pray that the Lord would use His word that went forth that afternoon!

There is no greater joy for a parent than to see your children walking in the truth. We thank the Lord that our kids are following the Lord and desiring to be obedient to Him. Mya is our fifth child and the latest to profess faith in Christ. Last Sunday it was a great honor to baptize her before many witnesses from our Tarapoto church. What a great symbol of identification with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection! Please pray for Mya as she grows in her relationship with the Lord!

Nearly twelve years ago the Lord used us to start the assembly in Tarapoto. The body of believers have gone through many hard things. People have come and gone. Many have professed faith in Christ. Some have fallen away and some have changed churches but others have continued on and are serving the Lord with their gifts and abilities right there where they were planted. We thank the Lord for each member of this local body of believers. They are precious souls and it is always a huge joy to visit them and take part in much mutual encouragement!

It's always great to do a group workout on the shores of a jungle creek in front of a thermal hot spring! We did two unforgettable river trips last month. On the first I took eight brothers with me and on the second I took six brothers and six sisters. On the first trip we visited three villages and on the second we visited four. Both trips were full of evangelism and teaching and kids ministries.... and adventure. A huge thanks to doctor John Gill from Pitsburg who set up medical clinics in each village and blessed so many people with his expertise, medicine and spiritual encouragement!

Everyone in the family enjoyed being back in Tarapoto and being with old friends and visiting the churches. We thank the Lord for the amazing kids that God has given to us. They are such a blessing and help in the ministry. The only sad thing about this trip is that we didn't have Javen and Cullen with us. Many of the Peruvian brothers and asked about them and have missed them greatly. It was interesting to see Bria and Josiah step up and take on the role that Javen and Cullen had when they were going on river trips with me and when they were involved in the youth ministry. They grow up fast!

One of the most important events that the churches put on each year is something called: "Capacitation Biblica". Brothers and sisters come from all the surrounding villages to do intensive bible study for two weeks. On the classroom side of things, I had the privilege of teaching through the book of Revelation and then on the practical side of things I got to take the students out to do evangelism each day. It was a super valuable couple of days as these students are key future leaders. Please pray that these students would continue to dedicated their time and hard work in the study of God's word.

Amy and I had a fantastic Valentines day! We were able to separate February 14th, in its entirety, to one big long date. Strong marriages make strong families which make strong churches which make strong communities. Marriage must be worked at, it must be nurtured, it must be invested in. There is a major need everywhere to strengthen this God-ordained institution. Please pray for us as we desire to cultivate a Christ-centered, thriving relationship and then, in turn, help others in this area.

As our boat motored down the turbulent, chocolate-colored waters of the Huallaga river it was absolutely stunning to take in the vibrant colors of the amazonian rain forest. Six guys were with me and we were on our way to visit three different villages over the course of five days. We ended up having a "fantastic" time in every sense of the word. The best part of the trip was the opportunity to seek the Lord together as we read large portions of scripture out-loud, spent precious times in prayer and sang praises to our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The best discipleship always happens along the way as you seek the Lord with younger believers and then give them opportunities to do ministry after you've set the example. In each village we had kids meetings, open air meetings, church meetings and home bible studies. We did jungle treks, swam with piranhas, ate interesting foods and slept on boarded floors. Each one of the guys took on their given responsibilities with much gusto.... Yes, it was Fantastic!!!


The little kids in every village are such a delight to work with! They always come running, full of energy and excitement to the organized "horita feliz" which we did in the morning and then again in the afternoon. Usually these meetings consists of a game, then a memory verse, then a bible lesson, then some songs and finally, some kind of snack with a drink. These children are the future and we must invest in them! Usually by the end of our first kids meeting the ninos are hanging all over us and soaking up every second of attention that we can give them. It is a great honor that, in nearly every village, there is some little boy that's been named after me: "Miqueas"! I'm praying that the Lord would raise up many of these kids to be faithful witnesses for Him for many years to come.


One afternoon, in-between meetings, a group of villagers took us on a hike to see a beautiful cascade that poured into a deep pool of dark, foreboding waters.... We were hot and sweaty... and the water looked good... So I jumped in! The villagers that had taken us on the hike were quite alarmed about this but after they saw that the piranhas, alligators and boas didn't do anything to me they all started to jump in too. We had a blast jumping off rocks, swimming and refreshing ourselves. The view looked like something you might have seen in the garden of Eden! Absolutely spectacular!


Open air preaching works quite well in the villages and I try to make it a priority to sound forth the gospel in the main square everywhere I go. There is nothing better than thundering God's word over the ripe harvest fields and to rain down His warnings and His love on the general public. This is what we did in every village and there were professions of faith and recommitments to Christ each time God's word went out! Please pray for these new brothers and sisters in these pueblos.


There was no way to communicate with these particular villages to let them know ahead of time that we were coming. Nevertheless, the brothers and sisters dropped everything to received us with much love and hospitality! When we unexpectedly arrived they were so overjoyed to see us that they sprang into action, spreading the word to everyone to come out to the gospel meetings. In two of the villages they slaughtered the few chickens that they had in their possession and cooked up a feast for us. In the other village one of the brothers set out on an all-night hunt so that he could bring us a tasty jungle rat for breakfast. The outpouring of love was very humbling! It's amazing to be part of the universal body of Christ!

During the course of this last month it has been more evident than ever that we are in a spiritual battle! The end of the ages has come upon us and the devil senses it. He is targeting men, husbands, fathers and especially leaders of ministries. We have recently seen one of our closest friends and co-workers go down hard. It has served as a huge warning... "Stand firm against the schemes of the devil.... Put on the full armor of God!"

In the midst of the raging battle the Lord has opened many opportunities to infiltrate enemy territory. Please pray for us as we look to Christ while on the front lines and in all of our upcoming travels. We take these opportunities very seriously and very much desire your intersession on our behalf. This last month provided many open doors to make Christ's name great. The following three paragraphs contain information on some of the most exciting spiritual military operations that we have recently taken part in.

1. A Christmas day evangelistic banquet with 400 Indian Hindus: On December 25th Amy and I and the kids went to Des Moines to share the Christmas story from the Bible at a dinner for the Hindu community of central Iowa. I was able to preach a straight forward gospel message to hundreds of east Indians. It was a spectacular chance to share the love of Christ with a big crowd of precious souls that had never heard it before. Afterward I spent a few hours in great personal discussions with many interested people. If I would have preached that same exclusive message of salvation in Christ alone in the north of India on a street corner I could have been stoned to death. The Lord has truly brought the foreign mission field to the USA! As ambassadors for Christ we must take advantage of the unique times in which we live! Please pray for those who heard the message that day and are still wrestling with the biblical truths that were laid on their hearts.

2. A New years conference with about 1000 brothers and sisters from all over the USA. The day after our epic gospel meeting with the Iowan Hindu’s we traveled to Murfreesboro Tennessee where we had the opportunity to share in the ministry at the "Believers Rise Up Conference". It was a fantastic chance to impact a good crowd of young people and then later share about the importance of discipleship with the adults. Our whole family had a good time as we were all encouraged and challenged by the brothers and sisters that were there. Please pray that the Lord would spark a burning desire in the hearts of His people to take risks for our great God and His great cause while trying to do evangelism and make disciples.

3. A gospel presentation to 30 students at one of the secular universities in Dubuque. A friend of a friend who teaches at one of the local non christian universities in town heard that we were missionaries to Peru for many years so he asked if I would come and teach a cross-cultural relations class to a group of students who were preparing to do a "social work missions trip" to Lima. I told him that I would love to teach the class but with the understanding that I would give it from a Christian missionary perspective. The atheist professor was fine with this stipulation and just like that I had the unique opportunity to share the gospel with a bunch of non-believing college students in a social work case study venue. The message was very well received (even though many thought I was crazy) and it led to many great questions and discussions throughout the class. Please pray that these students would investigate the claims of Jesus and come to a saving faith in Him.
