Wow. So much has happened since we last wrote... where to begin...?
We kept on thinking of writing an update, but alas thinking about writing is not the same as writing and even though you were all constantly in our thoughts, and though perhaps it is mostly true that it's the thought that counts, sitting down to write is actually quite helpful in the process and that's where we kept getting stuck... no time even to sit... until this week. So, here I am... sitting. rambling. um... right. on with the update already. :)
[feel free to omit the above portion of this correspondence when publishing in church prayer letters... ;) heheh]
December brought with it all the normal holiday busyness, in addition to a regional convention of river churches, and the packing of our entire household for storage, and tying up loose ends at church as we'll be away for a good number of months (here in Trujillo and Lord willing in the US), and in the midst of all the rest, entertaining visitors from the coast for a week (our beloved co-workers from IBEM in Trujillo & family),... well, surely you can imagine how much homeschooling we accomplished last month... uh huh. :)
We had to be out of the house we'd been renting, as well as arrive in Trujillo for classes by the end of the first week in January. After some car trouble, which did necessitate spending the night at a hotel practically in the middle of no where, we did eventually arrive in Trujillo safe and sound. Upon arrival, we made up for lost time by eating Papa John's pizza right away. :) of course.
That first week, Micah taught a class on how to preach for the students in Capacitacion Biblica, and will be teaching a class on parenting to the IBEM students this coming week. The first weekend in February, he'll be traveling back to the jungle for two weeks to participate in the Capacitacion Biblica in Yurimaguas as well as to take advantage of visiting the church in Tarapoto.
Lord willing, we anticipate being able to travel to the States towards the middle/end of March. We look forward to giving a report of what we've seen and experienced of the Lord's work here as well as catching up personally with many of you. If you're interested in letting us talk your ear off hearing more about our ministry in person, please be in contact with us about dates and times. It's gonna be great! ;)
Until then,
Micah & Amy Tuttle {and family}

How is it possible that these months have already happened? Oh my.
Well, we are alive (albeit barely) after two VERY amazingly busy months. Thank you to those of you who have reminded us that we are completely out of touch by not posting for two whole months! Perhaps you all will understand when I get finished with this update :)
July.
Basically we were in Trujillo for the entire month. We left Tarapoto on the 2nd (right on the tail end of a river trip that last week of June) and arrived back here the 29th. During that time, Micah was IBEM for the third week of classes (doing devotional, class on Psalms, eating lunch with the students, practical studies and fun nights in the evenings). No internet during all this time. The following week, we hosted a very good friend and co-worker from the US for 10 wonderful days. Only a few days after saying goodbye, we received Amy's mom on the 21st just in time to pack up for heading back to Tarapoto. We made the LONG drive basically in one long haul this time because of it being Peru's Independence day and there being no room at any of the inns. We made it without issue even with another passenger in our already too small vehicle.
August.
The first weekend Micah traveled all the way back to the coast to participate as one of the key speakers in a national youth convention in Chiclayo. He was back for a few days before leaving to speak again at the bilingual church in Sisa's 14th anniversary the next weekend. It was VERY nice to have Amy's mom here during all that time. The day after Micah got back, Amy traveled with her mom to spend a few days in Lima together before her mom flew home. While at-home-daddy, Micah was also working full bore on installing the bathrooms in the church preparing for a young people's retreat coming up this coming weekend. Today, Micah left for a 5-day river trip. He took Bria with him and Lord willing they will be back on Friday. Saturday, the young people from Yurimaguas arrive for a three day 'retreat', but we're both pretty sure they'll go home wanting nothing but rest after the packed schedule he's lined up for them! And then August will be over.
Phew! So you may now understand why you haven't heard from us! :)
Please keep praying! We have some important decisions to make in the very near future, we are looking to the future and are dependent on the Lord's guidance. Pray that the Lord would bless the work of our hands. Pray that we would stay tightly knit to Him as well as to each other!
Pictures coming soon! stay tuned :)

Wow. SO much has happened in the last... well, the last 3 months really, that we have gotten all outta whack in regard to normal updates. We are WAY behind in updating! We are SO sorry about that.
I don't think we have ever before been SO busy. I think I always think that ;)
March
- 1st week - Micah occupied 24/7 with last minute preparations for his courses. Christ ever the subject.
- 2nd&3rd week - we had a harrowing trip but arrived whole at IBEM in Trujillo. The first week we had fewer students, which was altogether pleasant. Over the weekend, we all trudged 6hrs. up the road to Cajamarca to witness a very special wedding. Afterwards, we came back to a full final week of classes and enjoyed Pedro Torres from Bolivia who taught on church growth.
- 4th week - We then had a week of car repairs, good news publications, running here and there and everywhere, soaking in starbucks, sneaking in a solitary blazing day at the beach... and saying goodbye 14 times to our missionary family (because we did not leave when we said we were going to and had to keep saying goodbye - that was fun :) And the kids were happy, because we got to spend Easter with everyone.
- 1st week - celebrated a Risen Savior... all week long. If Christ didn't rise from the dead then we are above all men, most foolish.
- 2nd week - travelled back to Tarapoto; it went super smoothly :)
- 3rd week - Micah taught a homiletics (how-to preach) course each day from morning 'til the early afternoon.
- 4th week - we are plum in the middle of now...
Please pray for health & safety
(they are in an area with high incidence of malaria, and traveling by river is unpredictable)
Pray that the Lord would be glorified and that this work would bear fruit
Pray that He would be guiding each day's meetings, drawing the people who's hearts have been prepared.
Pray for us while he's gone - homeschool, joy, holding down the fort
Most of all pray that we would LOVE Him with our whole hearts, and be ever willing and usable in our Potter's steady hands.

Hey there everybody!
So here we are in Trujillo! hah! Normally, we like to write before we travel to take advantage of all those extra prayers that keep us on the road and healthy during the LONG trip between Tarapoto and Trujillo. This time it was not to be, however, since our computer seems to be giving up on us. We're really not sure what the problem is, but we're hoping maybe someone here in Trujillo can fix it? We shall see.
Regardless of our lack of communication, we trust that the Holy Spirit has been reminding you to pray for us! We know that our Father cares for us and will not forget us, even if you do, so don't worry!! heheheh. But we know that MANY of you do pray faithfully on our behalf and we are SO grateful! We are ever conscious of our utter dependence on the Him, the Living God, our Father.
This month is IBEM! Please be praying for the students and the professors. There is so much to tell, and so little time to write at the moment. I'm hoping to write again while we are here with a little more information (fuel for prayer and praise!). The Lord is at work as always and we can't wait to share with you some of His praises!
In the meantime, will you pray for us this week?
- IBEM - Students and professors. Micah is teaching Christ this week!
- Travel to Cajamarca for the wedding of the year (2 fantastic friends of ours) and back
- All the other thousand things we've got to do while here...
- Tarapoto meetings, that all will go smoothly while we are away.
You guys are the greatest!!
The Tuttle Tribe -
residing in Tarapoto, currently in Trujillo, looking forward to the celestial city

If you are like us, you too may have just found yourself on the brink of another Christmas season asking just how this year could possibly have gone by so quickly. Last year at this time, we were living in Trujillo, having recently made a trip to the jungle; still only contemplating work in this part of the country. Now, here we are. Sitting around our easy-to-assemble Christmas tree adorned with lights, and we're sweating. The tendency is languish in such temperatures of 95* during the day, yet things do seem to liven up as temps sink to luxurious lows of 86 degrees at night... quite without air conditioning. One's body does acclimate after all and we've decided that sweating IS healthy :)
After two very full weeks in Trujillo, we are back to work here in the jungle. Not that we stopped for a moment in Trujillo! Thankfully all travel was relatively uneventful, unmarked by car problems or major delays. During the first week Micah taught 1&2 Peter, loading the students up with LOTS of valuable info and helpful tools to use in their own further studies of the books (he has the reputation of giving many assignments, hehe). Each day as a family we ate lunch with the students, hopefully in some small way making up for lost time as we were unable to be away from Tarapoto for the majority of this latest module. On the weekend, Micah led a mission trip to nearby Cuidad de Dios, and although nothing went as originally planned, a sovereign design was evident. Another highlight, IBEM graduated its second group of students this module, which brings the total to seven graduates. We are encouraged by the brothers and sisters who have worked so hard to finish this phase of studies with the aim to increase effectiveness in their respective ministries. Our second week in Trujillo was equally full, with car-work, meeting with people to whom we continue to minister, the year end IBEM evaluation/planning meetings, and touching base with most co-workers and friends. We even squeezed in a late but very DELICIOUS Thanksgiving dinner with the Elliots and Pam Zarek. We had a great time.

In the months ahead, we plan to forge forward with activity focused on the establishment of the work here in Tarapoto. Our main needs are: co-workers, leaders, and the finished meeting place. The LORD knows that each is significant, which are most urgent and we trust Him to provide for every one. Please pray with us to that end. Pray also that we would faithfully look to Him in everything.
It has been encouraging to be able to look at the work in 3 month segments and to set tangible goals for those periods. Over the next several months, the plan is to work with two men giving them charge of teaching Sunday mornings, and Micah taking the teaching on Sunday evenings himself. This is a welcome change from the last three months when there was no choice but for Micah to lead all the meetings. The mid-week Bible study will be going through a basic discipleship course. With the coming year, Lord willing, we will start monthly meetings for women. We also hope to make a serious advance on the building project. Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves, but our sufficiency is of God.
Honestly, we consider the last months an intense trial period, and we continue to learn from the memory of the experience, as well as all we are currently facing, this being our motto: “But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God, who raises the dead, who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver; in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us.” God. Who delivered and doth deliver, He will yet deliver. Woohoo! It just does NOT get any better! Now thanks be unto God, who always causes us to triumph in Christ and makes manifest the savor of his knowledge by us in every place. For we are unto God a sweet savor of Christ. Glory!
Our sincere thanks to all who prayed for us during these recent months. Please continue to intercede with and for us, for the work here, that His body would be nourished, and that His church will be firmly established in this region.

We hope and pray that this season will be marked by remembrance of the only and precious Savior Jesus.
With much love,
the Tuttle family
+ 2 adults
+ 5 children in one red Isuzu Trooper
+ uncertainty of road conditions because of recent rain
- a working cd/tape player in the car
= need for prayer and patience and lots of activities to do in the car!
Today (not yesterday...) we are leaving to complete another long journey over to the coast. So, do please remember us in your prayers, specifically for safety and sanity. :)
This first weekend (11/21-22) will be spent in a big evangelistic/mini-mission trip put on by IBEM and students. Next week, Micah will be teaching through 1 & 2 Peter for IBEM. The 29th, Micah and I celebrate 13 years of marriage! Yay! The second week in Trujillo we will be resting... hah! Resting IS relative :) We are so THANKFUL for all the Lord has blessed us with to do.
We sincerely thank you for your love and prayers,
Micah and Amy Tuttle and family

Dear Praying Friends,
Happy Son-day* to you! Thank you all for praying for us over these last months in spite of a serious lack of updates. We trust that the Holy Spirit has brought us to mind for prayer just at the right moments.** We could do nothing apart from the never-failing grace of God, in this wild and crazy life we are honored to share.
So, no one has heard from us over the last month+, so we thought we'd better give you all an update before you think the worst :)
Summary:
June - In Tarapoto (since April), we were involved in all kinds of ministry & enjoying the heat. Micah made a river trip the last week.
July - The first week, we traveled back from Tarapoto (the jungle) to translate/teach/etc. at IBEM (Bible Institute) in Trujillo. Here, we had a very full month, with a week of conference for full-time workers; then two weeks of classes, ministry opportunities, shared meals and some just fun stuff with the students.
August - During this month so far, we finished up IBEM and packed up everything we own (perhaps slightly more complicated than it sounds :) and are distributing it between two places.
What does this mean? ...well, we are moving to Tarapoto!*** There is a big pile of furniture/belongings in the front room of the lovely house we've rented for the last two years. It is waiting for the moving truck to take it to the jungle. Some of our things that won't stand the heat and humidity, we've moved to a small apartment that a lady from Centro Biblico is renting us for a very reasonable amount. We decided, that for now, for the sake of the family, we will maintain a small cheap apartment in Trujillo. That way, when we come back every couple of months for IBEM, we'll have a home to come to; thus easing some of the difficulty of re-adjustment between places.
Very soon, we'd like to send out some informational e-mails detailing some of the ministries we are privileged to be a part of. We regret not making time to keep you all informed over this insanely busy month. If we have a hard time keeping up with ourselves, we are sure that it must be that much harder for all of you far away to keep up as well! We'll try to do a little better as we have the time. These last months have been AMAZING.
GOD is good.
Thank you for participating in this exciting life of ministry, through your prayers and gifts. We are constantly amazed by the Lord's rich blessings.****
Looking to His return,
the Tuttle tribe - Micah & Amy
Javen, Cullen, Bria, Siah, Aleya Mya
PS. Amy is in Portland 8/22 - 9/2 in order to gather/take back clothes and homeschooling materials for the younger tribe members.

Hey there!
Thanks SO much for all your prayers for us over this month, we sure have benefited from them!
* We're more than halfway done with the crazy month of February!
* More than half done with classes at the Institute...looking forward to our first graduation of students in the last week.
* And we're through the first half of Micah's 12-day stint in the jungle. Only 6 more days!! hooray!
He says things are going well, and I know they are, even so, I can still tell he's tiring out... even mile-a-minute Micah!!
He said on the phone last night, "I've had a headache pretty much every class. It's because I've been talking so fervently... it hurts your head to talk fervently for two hours." He's been teaching 4 hours a day.
Please pray for us on both ends. Pray that Micah would present those things that would cause most growth in the students and that he'd be relying on the Lord for strength. Pray that I would also have endurance and be able to accomplish the most important things while he's gone.
I wish I had pictures to share with you from there... maybe we can figure that out in the next day or two.
Love you all,
In Him,
Amy on behalf of the rest of us

Dear friends and family,
Things at the Bible Institute are going well this month. Lots of studying, lots of evangelism and lots of fun. I just finished up with teaching an Apologetics course in which we learned to defend the Christian faith when dealing with Atheists, the cults, and the false religions of the world. After class each day we tried to put things into practice and went into the streets to do some evangelism. In five days we were able to give out more than a thousand tracts and share the gospel with hundreds of people.
Please pray for the remainder February´s classes here in Trujillo and this upcoming week of classes in Yurimaguas while I´m away from Amy and the kids.

Hey there Friends & Family!
We hope you are all relishing the winter! Maybe by now, you are more likely relishing thoughts of impending spring!? Well, we thought we'd give you an update from down south where we are thoroughly enjoying the long-awaited much longed for summer heat!
We are right in the middle of all the fun. January was spent getting ready for and teaching in Capacitacion Biblica here in Trujillo. Micah taught 1&2 Samuel over two weeks. Since then he's been finishing up preparations on his other two classes.
This last Sunday, Feb. 1st was the official start of the Institute AND the Capacitacion in the jungle is going on simultaneously! Micah will be teaching Apologetics next week in IBEM and then will go by bus and hopefully arrive in time to teach a condensed 1&2Samuel and Nehemiah in the jungle the next week. All the while, he's also the coordinator of practical studies at IBEM, so he's working out evangelistic events, work projects, involving the students in a variety of different ministries, etc, etc. So, busy, busy. Phfew! That's been fun! :)
We are still praying and dreaming of the jungle... please keep praying for us! As we get closer, we're looking at the possibility of spending several months there this year. Our goal would be to spy it out, give a boost to the believers there in Tarapoto, do at least one river trip (visiting the churches between Yuri and Tarapoto) and to capture a better idea of what ministry possibilities could be developed further in the future. Please pray specifically in this regard that if this is the next step in this Grand Adventure, that the Lord would put everything into place... financially, practically, etc.
As for family news, we are very much enjoying the fact that it is really warm here, and we want the kids to enjoy it too, so we bought a pool and boogie boards... now there's a way to help with the heat!! Mya is now walking and subsequently getting into everything. Javen is a huge help to us and is beginning to take interest in piano again as well as drawing Narnia characters. Siah is such a sweet boy and is learning his letters and numbers. Feb. 1st was also Bria's 6th birthday! She is learning to read and can now swim under water! Cullen is learning some guitar basics and does everything with all of his might, especially swimming and surfing! Amy continues to school the kids right through the summer albeit at a slightly relaxed pace. We are living FULL!
We're sorry this got kind of long. Maybe we should have combined it into two...
but we thank you for reading our news and please do pray for us - your prayers are so valuable!
In Christ,
Micah and Amy Tuttle

Hello Friends and Family,
Life has been speeding along as usual. We've been pretty busy over the last couple months but things are just about to speed up! As I write, everything is packed and we're about to leave for another trip to the jungle... driving. That's actually what prompted me to write! Please, please pray again as we're headed back to the jungle.
Here are a few specific requests for this next week:
- hat we'd see just what the Lord would have us to see; that we'd have open hearts
- we'd meet the people that He wants us meet
- that we'd be able to get a good idea if the Lord has work for us to do there
- safe travel & health (20 hours in 2 days each way with 5 kids! ...hahahah, woohoo!)
Please pray for the following:
- November -
- classes for IBEM (Bible Institute), 4 weeks
- December -
- evangelistic campaign in Ayacucho, 1 week
- conference in mtns (Chonta Alta), 1 week
- short-termer from Houston for Christmas break, 2-3 weeks
- January -
- Capacitacion Biblica - Trujillo, 2 weeks
- another jungle trip planned, 2 weeks
- February -
- classes for IBEM (Bible Institute), 4 weeks
- Capacitacion Biblica - Yurimaguas, 2 weeks
We so covet your prayers.
Thank you for loving us,
Amy for all

Alright, now that I/we have been sick so long, I've forgotten what it is like to write a normal blog entry!
At first glance, I cannot think of a thing to write.
So... today everyone is feeling alright (definition of alright = not vomiting, not in bed in agony, no fevers). Several of us still have recurring stomach aches, but overall, we're doing much better.
Tomorrow, our friends arrive. That will be neat, as long as we don't make them sick!
Consequently, because of our visitors, we have a pretty busy week planned for this next week. I'll have to blog about it as we go along.
Dearest Beloved Micah and I discussed the upcoming months last night and put some finishing touches on our plans. As always, looking beyond next week takes some serious concentration and decision-making skills! We realized we have (after our guests leave) only 3 1/2 weeks to pack up our house and move all our things into storage (we'll get rid of some stuff). After that we will take a two week trip to Trujillo for the Bible Institute. After that we will be in Lima for a week. After that we will fly to the States where we basically will be living out of suitcases again for 3 more weeks, while driving around the U.S.! When we counted them up, we realized we will be living out of suitcases for something insane like 5 or 6 weeks! ...with four little kids! Oh my. Needless to say, last night I felt a little bit daunted by that. But I woke up this morning. And I realized... This is my life! How can I complain?! It is how the Lord has chosen to bless me! Besides, if I worry about tomorrow it only serves to ruin today. So, be happy, self, I say, and be grateful for what the Lord has given you today!
Amy :) |

It is a matter of attitude. I had to check on mine often. I am actually experiencing a different kind of homesickness from my family back home. Plus the fact that after 2 months, we are still a squatter here in my in laws. Not very comfortable and I am getting anxious everyday when we could move to our own place. But I do have a husband who still adores me and is really working hard. You're right, your post reminds me that this is the life that God has choose for me to bless. Great is thy faithfulness, O God! Hi, Amy. You've been sick, and I've been moving. All settled now. WHEW!!! That is a job. I totally understand about the living out of suitcase and the transition issues for the kids. We're going through the transition AGAIN of a new city. It's hard. God has been saying over and over to me the very same verse you quoted. NEW EVERY MORNING! That's a good thing because I think I used them all up yesterday... :-) And take it one day at a time. When we plan too much, it's overwhelming. At least for me it is. Will you be able to blog from the road? Hope so. |

(Click the picture to see our other pictures from our trip)
We got back last night from a 5-day trip to the coast. We went to discuss plans for the Bible Institute that we are helping to start. The second session of IBEM (Instituto Biblico de Entrenamiento Misionero) will be held in Trujillo in July. We looked at possible locations and talked about the website. Guess who the website's author is... drumroll... me. I feel so pleased. I asked a guy there how much he would typically charge for designing and writing a website, you know what he said?! ...around $200. So I figure my work IS worth something!
My apologies to those of you who read our blog, that I haven't been posting in real time... you see, there is no such thing as wireless internet that you might log in to at Panera or your local library or whatever other wonderful place in the States that has wireless access for FREE. Matter of fact, in our hotel, they charge by the 1/4 hour for internet access. So, I was only able to read the most urgent e-mails. That's okay. We had a nice break from the norm.
Speaking of Panera, anyone out there want to send me a cinnamon crunch bagel with hazelnut cream cheese?
Okay, so back to the stats of this last week: We stayed in an awesome hotel about 15min away. We kept up on school.... sort of.
The kids did manage to get some math done each day, we read our AO readings for week (wk.8 of Y1 in 18 weeks). And they did a WHOLE BUNCH of nature study stuff. We found a crab and kept him prisoner for the week (very interesting), we saw lots of birds (I can't name any of them except one of them was a hummingbird of some sort - I'm new to this nature study stuff.), and the kids drew quite a few pages in their nature sketch books. FUN.
There he/she is! What a beauty... LooneyTune's rendition of our friend crab And GuerillaGuy's version.
Observation in action of a drowning cricket found in the pool - they fished it out themselves!
This trip was so busy of a time. When we weren't in meetings or driving around looking at possible locations or whatever, we did manage to have quite a bit of fun. But, it is a 6 hour drive both ways, and one day while we were there, we were all in the car for 5 hours! So we're all glad to be back even if we ALL do miss the sunshine! We live at 2,750m above sea level in the Andes mountains, so although it isn't freezing, it definitely isn't sultry either. But we LOVE the green of the mountains!

Sounds like lots of learning by your kiddos-- at least stuff they will actually remember! I tried nature notebooks once, but my boys currently hate to draw. I think they just don't really know how and would like detailed instructions. So I am planning on teaching them a little basic drawing over the summer so we can actually do a notebook in the fall without crying...by both them and me! ;-) |
