relief to rejoice over.

thanks to the recommendation of our doctor in trujillo, and a little help from our friends, we located the neurologist in tarapoto and micah got to his personal clinic around 8pm last night. going to the neurologist proved to be a really GREAT idea. he was the second in tarapoto to suggest or suspect meningitis, well, except for my own self of course, but i would never say 'i told you so' to a doctor or anyone else for that matter, at least not directly. ;)

from what i can piece together from the conversation (which is not much from this distance), the neurologist was pretty confident right away that micah does have meningitis, even before doing the expensive test. micah was annoyed by said expensive test. thinking he was doing it only at my and our trujillo doctor's insistence, with his splitting headache and weakened state he was made to sit up perfectly still for a seemingly everlasting 10 minutes. however, the test did confirm to the doctor that something was going on with the left lobe of his brain which was in fact causing his aforementioned splitting headache.

a full night's rest, several injections and a handful of pills later, micah is doing notably better this morning. his voice finally has a little of its music back (as opposed to the scratchy stutter-y sound of the last couple of days). yay!

however, rejoicing aside, there are still some questions that remain to be answered that will help us to know if micah is pulled fully out onto the road to recovery or if he's only just to the onramp. ;) meningitis can be caused by malaria and tuberculosis and even all by its very own self can be pretty contagious. which of course would have repercussions for our whole family.

please rejoice with us and praise the Lord for His marvelous mercy AND keep praying that the doctors will be thorough and that we'd get it all taken care of!

thank you SO much for your prayers and for taking the time to send those encouraging notes! micah expressed via the patchy cell phone connection this morning, that he'd read the e-mails and that they were a HUGE encouragement! again, thank you SO much, you may never ever know how much of a soul booster those personal notes can be!!

y'all are the best :)

Glad that the doctor cut to the meningitis solution. Often viral meningitis makes the most of either tiredness or some other more minor infection. It happened to me some years back in the Dominican Republic and by getting treatment fairly early on that also reduced the consequences although a stiff neck and a tendency to head aches lasted for a couple of months. Rest is important, rather than getting annoyed by it!!

Hi from far to near for you all are in my prayers and I too thought of meningitis as I had it age 12 not sure where I got it but in 1953 polio was similar and so they thought I had either or..But made it and will pray that Micah will soon heal and recover completely. God is good all the time. Keep trusting and believe He will bring you through. Remember the past things that He has done. Praise Him. He is faithful!
God Bless in His awesome love.

My sister had menengitis as a kid and our whole family went on the treatment as a preventative. Back then, they had us take the same stuff they used to treat leprosy and it made our pee bright red for a month. Totally still remember that!

Praying for a fast and full recovery for Micah.

Hugs,
Janell

Hi Micah and Amy, I had a good conversation with Jim and Diane today all about the situation you guys are going through. Be assured that we as parents are most concerned and praying for an accurate diagnosis and speedy recovery. Thank you for the sacrifice in time, effort and disruption of your lives on top of the medical situation to make our visit a very memorable time. We love you all. Papa Doug and Hammy
